January 22, 2013

The evening started off with a run into Atglen Borough, Chester County, for a reported Investigation. Company 52 received the notification from LCWC and Chester Counties of residents reporting a possible sewer or propane odor outside in the area of 828 Ridge Avenue. Crews from Engine 52-1, Tanker 52-2, Squad 52 and Tanker 52-1 all made the response and arrived to find the odor somewhat dissipated. On further investigation it was determined no hazard existed in the area and all 52 units were released at 1745hrs.

Upon returning to station, members were gearing up for our annual SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) recertification. As is every year Company 52 members are required to don their SCBA and negotiate their way thru several stations setup in the station. Stations include SCBA Cylinder changeovers, exhibiting proper hand tool techniques, performing a dead weight drag, hose connections and many more. This while wearing full gear and breathing apparatus. Quickness and completion are judged and critiqued as well as monitored air consumption throughout the run.

As members readied for another round of course runs, LCWC struck the alarm for a reported Vehicle Accident in the area of Creek and Noble Roads in Sadsbury Township. Members crewed Engine 52-1 and Tanker 52-1 for the response. Arriving crews found a SUV had slid sideways into a pole with some operators compartment impingement. The Driver was able to self-extricate with bumps and bruises. Several crew members stabilized and secured the vehicle while others attended to the patient. EMS arrived soon after and checked the patient out before receiving a sign off. While crews awaited the hook, members repositioned the vehicle so repairs to a property owner's horse fence could be made temporarily. Crews finished the repair to the fence, confirmed transfer of the vehicle to the tow company and went available at 2025hrs.

SPECIAL THANKS to Cochranville Fire for the Air Bank services in filling our in-house Cascade system and topping off cylinders from our SCBA recertification event.
