Weekend of Activities Keeps 5-2 Busy

February 10, 2008

The activities started early Saturday morning when the Captains and Lieutenant made the run up to Bart Township Fire Company in the Squad for their monthly breakfast. We realize the importance of fundraising events to provide much needed money to our and our neighboring fire companies, so it is nice that we can assist with supporting each other's events. The 5-2 crew enjoyed a delicious breakfast, and had a chance to network with our fellow firemen from Gap, Bart and Oxford. Bart's new Pierce Tanker had also just arrived at their station, so we were able to look it over and talk to their membership about it. It's a beautiful piece of equipment, and we wish them many years of good luck with it.

Next, mid-morning back at Christiana, things became busy with the Company's Soup and Apple Dumpling sale which ran from 10am-2pm. Members and the Auxiliary Division worked hard to fill all the orders for some of the most famous food in Christiana. Many orders were received for the chicken corn soup and apple dumplings. It was a great success for the fire company, and we thank all that helped out or purchased from us.

On Sunday afternoon, we assisted Sadsbury Township officials with some photography of fire apparatus they need for an up and coming grant application. It great that we have such a good working relationship with the Township and wish them a positive outcome with the grant.

Lastly, on Sunday evening crews reported to Station 5-2 to strip hose and equipment off Tanker 5-2-1. It is headed to Glick Fire Apparatus on Monday morning to have several items upgraded with money provided to the fire company from this year's PEMA Grant Program. If you have been following the website, you'll remember the PEMA Grant Program project's started a couple of weeks ago with the safety chevroning to the back of Squad 5-2. Tanker 5-2-1 will be going into the shop for some upgraded work on the pump, as well as upgrades to the emergency lighting on the unit. Check back soon, and we will have posted pictures of the truck when it returns to service.
