Saturday March 12, found CFC members completing our yearly Live Burn training at the West Chester Training Center as well as 4 members attending FFI at Chester County Training Center. The West Chester crew set out bright and early for a day of instruction with a team of instructors that included, retired DCFD Chief Larry Shultz, Dave Darbro from DCFD Engine 11 / Truck 6, Travis Murdoch from Bowie Fire department and Ryan Shultz paid firefighter in PG county.

The burn day began for several crews with a brief discussion of techniques and some “tricks of the trade” in hose line advancements. With many years’ experience in the DCFD, the training instructors shared what works for them and encouraged us to be open minded. Senior members were quick to listen and quick to join in experiencing some good techniques that we will build on going forward. Many entries were made throughout the day that included many basement evolutions.

Crews wrapped up, cleaned up the burn facility and departed West Chester with the engine and squad arriving back in Christiana around 1600hrs. Tanker 1 had a slight detour to assist with a barn fire in Londonderry Twp.

CFC strongly believes that there is no better way to serve our community then by being prepared. By emphasizing our commitment to training and not becoming stagnate or what we already know, we strive to embrace new opportunities to learn and improve. Thanks to all the instructors the great day of instruction and comradery. Mark your calendar for next year.

Thanks to the West Chester Fire Department for the use of their facility and for Nozzle Nut Photography for the great pictures.

A special thanks to the Honeybrook Fire Company for standing by for us while we were out. They actually caught 2 runs, the first one was a 2 alarm row home fire in Parkesburg borough and the 2nd run was for a barn fire in Londonderrry Twp.

Great job to all members that were able to attend.
