Saturday morning, the volunteers from Station 52 met at the firehouse at 7:15 AM to split crews. One crew prepared and headed out for the 2nd Annual OABEST Expo. The OABEST (Octorara Area School District’s Agriculture, Business, Environmental Science and Technology) Expo is a FREE event for the community that consists of student demonstrations & exhibitions, musical performances, art show, science fair and much more. The second crew left for the open house at the Christiana Community Ambulance building to establish a landing zone for the medical helicopter from Brandywine Hospital.

Part of the exhibitions was an opportunity for visitors to come and learn what those in the fire/emergency medical services do as part of their jobs. Multiple local companies were present to answer questions, provide demonstrations and other activities for everyone to participate in.

Station 52 crew members arrived at the Octorara High School and set up our wood house (used for fire prevention training), hooked up a 1" forestry line for the visitors to use to see what it is like to use a fire fighting hose line and practice extinguishing a simulated fire.

Engine 52-1's crew also set up a landing zone for the medical helicopter out of Brandywine Hospital who flew in for a visit. After hanging at the expo for a bit, the helicopter headed out for the Christiana Ambulance open house event.

Another component of the event was a demonstration of a vehicle accident where the 52 crew provided a safety line for the protection of the other firefighters doing the demonstration.

All crews finished up at about 2:00 PM and cleared the school grounds by 2:30 PM.
