At 1933hrs Thursday night Chester County Emergency Services was contacting Lancaster 911 for the alert of Christiana Fire and Gap Truck 42 to assist Chester County Station 8 (Keystone Valley) on a working barn fire. The address of the large barn was 4311 Strasburg Road in West Sadsbury Township, Chester County.

Engine 52-1 made the response followed by Tanker 52-1, Tanker 52-2 and Squad 52. Engine 52-1 was one of the first units to arrive and was ordered to the rear of the barn thru a field. With the soft ground it didn’t take long to get bogged down. Crews pulled multiple handlines and utilized a Blitz Fire appliance hitting the fire from the A and B sides. Tanker 52-1 arrived and dropped their folda-tank while Tanker arrived to supply Engine 52-1. Tanker 2 remained as the west side nurse tanker while Tanker 1 joined the water supply operations. Crews remained on the scene putting out hotspots and clearing out debris till just before midnight.

Many crews from both Chester and Lancaster Counties assisted in the bringing the event to a close.

Special thanks to Tanker 43 (Gordonville) for the standby cover while we were out and for helping with getting our units back in service as we returned. As well as Nulls towing for the assist.

Company 52 back in service by 0015hrs Friday morning.
