At around 1710 the volunteers from station 5-2 were alerted from a brush fire along Rt 41. Captain 5-2-2 (Wallace) was in the area and went en route right after dispatch. County radio advised they were getting reports of 7 different brush fires along the highway. Capt. 2 arrived on scene comfirming the report of the fires and established command 5-2. Engine 5-2-1 (Reimold) and Tanker 5-2-1 (Stoltzfus) went respong within 3 minutes of dispatch. Engine 1 was given directions to start from the south side to extinguish the fires and Tanker 1 was advised to start at the north side. C.C. brush 26 then arrived on scene and started to extinguish the fires in the middle of Eng 1 and Tnk 1. All the fires were put out within an hour and all units were then put available.
While on this call Brush 5-2 was out assisting station 6-2 on a woods fire that has been burning for 3 days. The personnel at station 5-2 would like to make sure everyone remembers its very dry out right now and even flicking your cigarette out the window could possibly start a brush fire like we had today.
